It made a bee-line for my food dish, climbed in, and started eating my food! It ran away before I could do anything, but still....the nerve of that detestable little rodent! I am secretly enjoying the fact that my human has a cold. She finally appreciates why I enjoy curling up for naps, and lets me nap on her. My human bean is also warm and cozy when her fever goes up. Now, I can get on- demand Love-fests and Play-fests. I am really enjoying all the petting and playing. My human bean should get colds more often.

Cats are NOT Always Clean

Ahh....*rolling wildly*.....that feels good! Sometimes I need a good roll in the dirt after a long day or even the beginning of the day. I have a feeling that my human bean will not want to pet me anytime soon. When she tried to pat me, she saw a little dirt cloud billowing from my fur. However, I think humans sometimes find dirt relaxing, too, even though they don't want to admit it. Women call putting mud on their faces a "facial". But it's really just mud, right?

What's your opinion on dirt or dust? Do you like to roll in it?

This day, two years ago, marks the momentous day when I adopted my human bean. Or vice versa, depending on who you ask. But anyway, I am happy that I got this home. And, as a token of appreciation to my human bean, I will let her rub my belleh for a change.

The Many Types of No's

There are many types of no's that my human bean gives me. My human bean almost always use the same word, but says it with different vocal pitches and emotions.

Here's a cheat sheet for translating English to Cat with examples from my purrsonal experiences.

The first degree of no is the "picture-taking-no". This no means that the human bean is more amused than annoyed by whatever the cat is doing. For instance, my human bean is saying no because I might be trying to steal a piece of popcorn. My actions are more cute than mischievous, however. This stage is usually accompanied by the human bean taking pictures.

The second degree of no is referred to as the "No! Don't-go-in-the-garage!" no. This no is characterized by my human bean being mildly annoyed and me slightly enjoying the human's annoyance in a wicked sort of way.

   The "Don't-go-in-the-garage!" no is then followed by third stage of "No! Don't-go-under-the-car! Come here, Danielle!" intensity. In this stage, the human is increasingly annoyed and I'm enjoying myself even more.

   The fourth degree of no, the "yelling-no", is usually accompanied by my now angry human bean and my sensitive ear drums. The human bean is thoroughly frustrated and my blood is rushing with adrenaline. This may be caused by the me trying to find out what the top of the curtains look like by climbing up them, making a run for the forbidden basement, etc.

The fifth degree is the "pleading-no", where the intensity level is akin to my human bean realizing that the entire china cabinet is at my mercy. This no is usually pronounced with a begging tone like "Nooooo, Danielle!!!" Just in case you are wondering, this example and the curtain climbing example have not actually happened. Yet.

Spring Cleaning

My human bean has been acting very pitifully as of late. In the morning, when I mew at her, she tries to mew back at me. Being that my human is..well... human, any attempts at feline speak never make sense. The details of cat speak are very different.

Here's a translation this morning's conversation:

Me: Mew! (translation: Morning, Human!)
Human Bean: Meew! (translation: Sledsa hufi kes)

See? My human bean's (attempts at) mews turn out to be gibberish! I am wondering if my human bean needs medical treatment! Does your human bean mew at you?

It was so windy (and snowy) that icicles formed sideways today! Puddles and mud seem pretty tolerable now that we have about a foot of drifting snow on the ground! Needless to say, I was curled up cozily and catching some Zs inside.

The Pitfall of Spring

Don't get me wrong. I love spring. The flowers, the warmth, the birds, (Mmm...) the absence of snow. But when snow melts, it makes water. A lot of water. And it greatly inconveniences me to have to hop over puddles. A cat should not have to be so undignified.

Right now, it's like we have a stream going down the middle of our yard! My human bean should make a boat for me. Or at least pick me up and take me to the other side.

*sigh* I have to do everything for myself.

Playing Fetch

The classic game of fetch is played with the human throwing the ball and then the cat chasing it. But here's a new spin on the game when your human bean is the one who needs exercise and you are the one who is feeling lazy.

Settle yourself comfortably on a couch or like piece of furniture.
Give your your human bean your best bored-to-death look and yawn as your human rolls ball on the floor and tries to get you to play.
Watch with amusement as the ball rolls under the couch or into some other inecessible place.
Stay put as you watch your human bean get on her stomach as she fetches the ball from under the couch.
Once your human gets it out, repeat steps 1 through 3.

See, isn't this a great trick to teach your human? It gives them exercise and provides you with entertainment at the same time! It's a win-win.

Canyon River Feline Formula Review

As you can see, I was really excited about trying some Taste of the Wild Canyon River Feline Formula, a new formula of cat food.

It is very tasty! I love the salmon and trout flavor. And not only does it tickle my tastebuds, it's very healthy, too. It has trout, sweet potatoes, smoked salmon, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, and raspberries. It is grain-free, hormone-free, preservative-free, and antibiotic-free.

My rating all in all? Four out of Four Paws!

We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Cat Blog....

....for some woofie pictures. My human bean was at the shelter today, and had a ball playing with eight American Staffordshire puppies. When the human bean came home, I decided wouldn't shun her too much since she managed not to take any puppies home. Even I think these puppies are too cute.

The puppies are very playful. Most of the pictures my human bean got were only blurs cause they move too fast! They want to play tug of war or chew on what ever is handy. They are about eight weeks old, so they are going through their teething stage. As you can see, Eve was about to chew on the human bean's jeans. My human bean found out that they have sharp little teeth!

Ah, the moment of truth has finnally arived! This will be fun.

Quantity of Output: This is an area the human could improve on. It is definitely not daily. I want at least twice a week, human bean. On the bright side, at least this review is posted on time! One paw.

Quality of Output: I am pretty happy with this. My human bean likes to play with different templates for my blog and keep it looking nice. The human bean is good at documenting my activities and adventures. I sure have the flashy beast in my face enough, but it is for the greater good of my adoring public. Or at least my public. Anyhow, I am pleased in general. Three Paws.

Client Pawticipation: Well, I do have my own e-mail adress (it's on the Get to Know Me Page). Three Paws.

Pawticipation part two: I am satisfied. I got to go to quite a few pawties this year, and I got in some contests, too! I hope to have a birthday pawty this year. Four Paws.

Client Satisfaction: They seem to be purrty happy. I get about 10ish comments purr post. Are you, my clients, happy? Four Paws.

Overall Satisfaction:

My human bean was out last night playing with a woofie! Not blogging. Not giving me petting. Not giving me treats. Not being my slave. I do not have enough crabby and unsatisfied words to say about this! The human bean will get quite a few points docked off for this. However, my human bean did not take the woofie home, so that took a fair amount of self-restraint.

The treat levels have been satisfactory. I get tuna juice, Pawty Mix, and chicken broth.Yummeh. In this department, keep it up, Human Bean. One note on the Pawty Mix, though. My human bean was curious about what they tasted like and broke off the tail off of a fish. I don't want to share! Ok, I just HAD to tell that one, human bean. You will get some extra petting and play time as compensation for your embarrassment.

Overall satisfaction: 15 paws.

Helping with Chores

A couple days ago, wind broke off a branch from our tree. So, like a good cat, I decided it was my duty to help the human bean drag it off the lawn. And, just to remind my human bean, that even though it's important to have a clean lawn, playing with me comes first. (Can I get an amen on that?)

To make sure the branch behaved, I bit it into submission.

And I got bark in my mouth in the process. Pleah!

Well, actually, the human bean's team is going to the Super Bowl. I could care less about whose going where. But if it makes the human bean happy, then it's good. Who do you (or your human bean) want to win the Super Bowl? The Packers? Or the Stealers?

Who's That Kitty In the Window?

Hey! How'd you get in there?

There's a cat in my windows! There's always another kitty looking back at me whenever I look at the window. When I'm inside, I see a cat in the window that looks just like me. When I'm outside, I see it in the window again. Is it some sort of window parallel universe where the cat in the window matches you move for move? I need to do some serious research on this. Have you ever seen another cat (or woofie) in your window?

Update: My human bean told me I'm seeing my reflection. Hmmm.. maybe that correlates with the parallel universe theory somehow.

nor snow will keep the post office from delivering the mail? Not last Saturday! On Saturday, the sky dumped TONS of snow on us. And the roads weren't plowed, so the mail person couldn't deliver our mail to our mail box at the end of the driveway. I don't really blame her, since the snow was blowing so hard!

Anyhow, some of the flyers we were supposed to get on Saturday were already outdated, since Sat's mail got delivered today. Oh well. There's no great deals on cat toys in here, anyway. *sigh*

It's a cold, snowyish day out there, so today I'll tell you about a book I won. Many days ago, I got Dewey's Nine Lives in the mail! It was the first piece of mail I have ever received that was addressed to me, Danielle. (It might have surprised the mail deliverer!) Thank you very much, Pet Museum! The actual contents of the book were of much more significance to my human bean, who is a much better reader than I am. The human bean said it was very good book (especially for cat lovers). Chances are, you'd love this book too!

Today, I'm recovering from all the tractor snoopervision I did this week.

That combine was at it till the (sort of) wee hours of the night. Then, they just packed up and left again, never to chew off my corn again. Today, a tractor was tilling up the ground, but he got stuck in the mud! Another tractor had to come to its rescue and pull it out. When you think of tractors, they're supposed to be tuff and strong, but once its stuck, all you've got is about 1 ton of useless, helpless rubber and metal. Kinda funny, isn't it?

Those combines were at my corn again this evening, whacking it off! After doing a big chunk of our field, they left for home early again.

I was up on the fence demonstrating my feline prowess, and it must have scared them because they didn't want to get me mad by taking my corn away. Or it could be my humans theory, that the field is too wet and they don't want to get their combine stuck. But I kinda doubt that.

Well, the human bean said I should rest assured that I won't have a woofie sibbie in the foreseeable future. Whew. The little Lab/Shepherd mix you saw in the pictures is a little eight week old girl named Althea. The volunteers said she came from a litter of ten puppies. The human bean only played with the girls, because all the boy woofies were at the v-e-t getting their responsible pet operation, if you know what I mean.

And, we have another little milestone today. It snowed for the first time this season! It wasn't big flakes, but more like ice/snow pellets. All of the snow melted by noon, though. It was also windy today, so it made me really giddy when I was outside this evening.

Human beans need to learn how to be leisurely, like me.

Human beans can really get their priorities mixed up. They get all wrapped up doing things like non-cat related "chores" or "work". I mean, there are a lot of productive things my human could be doing, like petting me or blogging or playing pounce-on-the-toy with me. The list is endless.

Yesterday, my human got the idea that the leaves from our maple ought to be raked up. Well, I didn't think much of that idea. I decided that we both needed some together time.

C'mon! Don’t you want to sit on the porch with me curled up on your lap? And you could give me scritches under my chin and behind my ears and you could stroke me and………… If you are really nice I might even let you stroke my tummeh floof without giving you a bitey.

If I dare say so myself, I think I'm pretty good at getting my way.

Cornfield Harvesters!

Well, yesterday the people who planted the corn around our house started combining corn! They went twice around the field, and then they packed up everything and left. I guess they feared getting me mad if they took all the corn away.

You can see how truly humongous this combine is. The yellow pile on the top of the machine is a ton of little kernels of corn. That's alot of corn, cats. Cool, huh?

Cool, huh? I was a little disappointed my human didn't show it to me. The human said something about rescuing the snake from me, and vice versa. Whatever.

Danielle: Yes, I DO have to be up here. You never know about Mr. Chippie. He could be anywhere.

Danielle: Sometimes I consider getting hired help. They would appreciate my ideas and imagination. And they wouldn't be so worried about me climbing trees. On the other paw, if you have your human as your assistant, they serve you refreshments. Like the bonus tuna juice I got this afternoon. I think I prefer treats over appreciation of my tracking abilities. :)

Hi Everybuddy! I'm Scout. You haven't met me before, but my older brother Blizzard writes here once a while. Well, I figured I'd follow in my brofur's and sisfur's pawsteps and tell you a story today!

Today, my human bean popped me in the dreaded carrier. What is going on? Well, the carrier and I got stuffed into the backseat of the car, and off we went. Well, we're going past the vet's office. That's a relief! We came to a stop in front of the library. What are we doing in front of the library? And then the human bean took me out of my carrier, and introduced me to the librarians. They absolutely fell in love with me. They LOVED my fur.

And I admit, my fur is very soft. I got lots of petting, and I kinda liked all the attention. But then the sticky little people and their handlers started coming and then I realized.........................

I'm in the dreaded Preschool Story Hour! Blizzard told me all about it. He came here last year, and he said all the sticky little people all want to pet you at once, and some of them aren't super gentle when the pet you, and they mess up your furs......

I'm thinking to myself: "OK buddy, breathe through your nose and try to remember what else he said. Hmmmm...he said it's really scary at first, but you get settled in after a while. That is good news."

After my moment of near hysteria, my human bean and the librarian took me to the little stage in front of the children's section. The librarian got all the Sticky Little People to sit down (which, by the way, requires talent). Then she introduced me and my person, and then had the little Sticky Little People make a line. I'm glad the librarian did that, so they wouldn't all be trying to pet me at once. Some of them were shy, so they just barely touched me. One little guy wasn't very gentle when he petted me, but it wasn't as traumatizing Blizzard thought it was.

When the librarian started reading some books, I realized something. This isn't so bad! I'm the center of attention. I get to hop around if I stay near my human. And I have some time to impress my audience with my cuteness. To look cute, bunny style, you groom your face like this:

So all in all, the whole Preschool Story Hour wasn't the ordeal I thought it was going to be. Wanna go next year, Danielle?

Hey Everybuddy!

It WAS my very first blogoversary yesterday!!! We didn't furget, but we were all furry busy yesterday. So far in our blogging experience, we've had a lot of fun and met some very pawsome new friends. We want to give a special thank-you to my furrrend, Huffle. She was my first visitor ever! Because of you, (1) we kept blogging and (2) we were able to meet a lot of new friends. :)

And guess what happened today? The county fair! My human bean enters crafts, some art, photos, and a flower or two. Another fun thing about the fair is the animals. My human bean always looks forward to seeing them. Here's a sample of the critters.

We had a very wet week! It was a good week to curl up inside and be cozy.

Yesterday our ditch overflowed onto the road in the very early morning. That certainly doesn't happen very often! Now most of the water around our house is gone. That is good, cause I don't really like trying to leap over puddles.

Do you see me?

One thing we like about living in the country is the cornfields next to our house. It gives me many places to explore, and many scents to smell. My human likes to search for animal tracks on the soft ground. I think my human found some raccoon tracks (!), and some cat tracks.

And here's your fun fact about corn: Right now, our corn is about full grown in height. It's about 9 feet tall!

Hi everybuddy!

Yesterday was an active weather day. First, in the afternoon, it was 94 degrees, but it felt hotter because it was VERY humid. I took it easy, and chilled inside. Then, in the late afternoon, some storms dumped tons of rain on us. At about 8:00 pm, we had a rainbow! It was a double, too! The second one is to the right of the brighter one.

And, you can see the cornfield across from us. The corn is very tall now.

Guess what? We have two more black squirrels now! One of their parents is black, and must have passed the black color down to their twin babies. They are full of all sorts of mischief.

See how the guy on the right has half his body in the hole? I think somebody before him buried an acorn a little deeper than usual.

While outside later in the evening, the 'bean found Jr. Squirrel's HUGE hole. I have the sneaking suspicion my human thinks these twins are a little less cute now.

Yup, sometimes I act like a dog. I like having my belleh rubbed occassionally, and I even chase my tail once in a great while. But like both cats and dogs, I LOVE having my chin scratched!

Lately, my human bean has been doing some birdwatching. Being the helpful kitty I am, I go along to the back of our yard and watch birdies too. Here are some we have been seeing:

A male Indigo Bunting. He and his wife are building a nest around here somewhere. We have seen the female with peices of straw and nest material in her mouth.

And here is a male Yellowthroat. He really truely sings his heart out! He's not as shy as the Indigo Bunting, and he will be singing even though he sees you.

I spy the mama turtle! Do you see her? She does an excellent imitation of a rock.

Here she is!

The mother turtle has left her little clutch of eggs already, like all other painted turtles before her. I guess the Human Bean and I will be on our own raising the babies! Yesterday, I had my human bean do some research on painted turtle babies. According to Wikipedia Encyclopedia, it takes 72-80 days for the turtle eggs to hatch! The earliest would be around August 31st. I hope it will be worth the wait!

Yesterday, we had a new visitor at my house! It's a female painted turtle. I was sort of suspicious when it first showed up. It actually sort of made a hissing sound when I touched it with my paw.

OK, will this thing explode in my face if I touch it?

Woa! You move fast for a turtle. I better not let my guard down around you.

And you know what else the turtle did? She laid her eggs here, and then left!! In a while I'll have baby turtles to keep an eye on. But don't worry, I won't eat them, Human Bean.

Yesterday I had to go to the stabby place. I got a shot. I got put in a bag of all things! (Come to think of it, that was a very smart thing for the vet to do, because I would never sit placidly on the scale.) First I got weighed, then they opened the bag a little bit so they could give me a shot in the leg. I had many things to say when I was given that shot, none of them being positive. I hissed, spat, and growled all at once. I don't think I've said so much in my life! But on the positive, I got a WHOLE can of tuna for breakfast out of pity from my humans!

Today, I am relaxing and recuperating from my ordeal. I am now back to my normal, adventurous, and purring self.

Chipmunks Again!

Oh. Dear.

Mr. Chippie is a smart fellow. Since I did a post about Mr. Chippie's Secret agent, Mr. Squirrel, he wants revenge. He has deployed his most potent mix of weapons against my human. They are: cuteness and little baby chipmunks.

When my humans were out weeding the garden, one of Mr. Chippie's offspring, shown here, was sent to the garden. He was told to brainwash my human into thinking that chipmunks are cute, harmless little critters. So, when my human was taking a break from gardening, the human looked up and, Lo and Behold, there was a little chipmunk sitting on a rock not far from my human. When my human moved up closer, the chipmunk just sat on the rock and ate seeds. It wasn't afraid, so my human started taking pictures. And he just sat there and acted cute.

Do you see what Mr. Chippie is trying to do? He's trying to brainwash my human! See those big eyes?

He's trying to look cute and harmless, both of which are obviously not true. OK, maybe he's just a tiny bit cute. Maybe.

I need your help on this. What can I do to get back at Mr. Chippie? He is definitely not playing by the rules, preying on my human like this. It requires a smart solution.

Squirrels!

Lately, I've been wonder if this guy is a secret agent for my enemy, Mr. Chipmunk. Or maybe it's Mr. Chippie himself, in a squirrel suit? OK, that'd be kinda rediculous.

Anyway, I've been finding Mr. Chipmunk's tunnels right and left in my yard. This is one I found a while ago. Now I've been finding ones that are very fresh. I don't think my human bean likes finding Chippie holes in our yard, either.

However, I have been sneaking up on Mr. Chippie when he's not looking. Then he sees me, and dives into his hole. Just for good measure, I go to his hole and meow insults down it. (OK, not really!) So, I'm pretty sure that I'm intimidating him quite well. I'll win this battle yet!

Hi, pups, kitties, and humans! Today I'm reporting from one of my favorite (and cool) places outside. Right now, it is REALLY HOT- like 90 degrees with a breeze. Yuck! I may be going inside really soon. Anyhow, the heat hasn't discouraged any little critters that we saw at our place yesterday.
